Fall 2015 Fashion Trends
After the fashion shows in London, New York, Milan, and elsewhere around the world, we finally had a chance to take a look back at the biggest fall 2015 fashion trends. We want to share with you the biggest trends we saw in dresses for the fall, and show you how to incorporate them into your homecoming look this year. We also noticed that large, sparkly accessories are making a huge comeback. We’ve paired some of our favorite accessory and shoe combinations for you below.
One of the top skirt and dress trends we saw on the catwalks were flounce hemlines. Skirts with flounce hemlines start flat on the top and have more fabric towards the bottom. They’re fun, flirty, and perfect for a school dance. Taking a cue from the recently released Pantone colors for fall 2015, we choose some of our favorite dresses in navy, deep red and rose colors. Pair them with one of our sparkly pairs of heels, a bracelet and earrings, and you’ll be all set for homecoming.
One Shoulder Dresses
Another big fall 2015 fashion trend to look out for at homecoming this year is the one shoulder dress. We saw many models with just one shoulder bared on the fall catwalks, in both casual dresses and evening gowns. Some of our favorite designers, including Shail K., MacDuggal and La Femme, have some great fall one shoulder options which we’ve listed below. For more one shoulder dresses, click here.
Another huge fall 2015 fashion trend is the use of prints. We’ll see prints all over this year, including reptile and animal prints, abstract prints, and even graphic/geometric prints. Again, trying to keep with the predicted fall 2015 colors, we’ve pulled a few of our favorite dresses and accessories for you below:

It’s fair to say women dominate the shoe category. From pumps to flats and booties, we seem to have endless options to get our shoe fix. So to help you figure out which foot fashion to go for this fall, we created a simple info graphic for shoes A-Z. Granted, we are missing a few letters, but we will keep a look out for any new kicks that can make this select list! Of course, be sure to check out our shoe selection for these styles and others!
Here’s the scenario: you just got asked out on a date by the guy you’ve had your eye on for a while now. You’ve talked to your friends about the perfect outfit and hairstyle, now all that’s left is the perfect makeup. That’s where Jaclyn Hill comes in. If you haven’t heard of her, she is a famous YouTube makeup artist who has almost 200 videos of different makeup looks and tutorials. We rounded up some of our favorites for you to check out below:
Movie Date: Bright Eyes + Bold Lips
Had a late night? Don’t plan your next Sephora haul just to splurge on new under eye creams and concealers. Sometimes the most effective solution for dark under eye circles is to rock bold and bright eyeshadow and liner. And don’t be shy—bold eyes and lips are trending this summer, and many bold colors you buy will work well into the fall! For a bright and bold makeup routine, we recommend Jaclyn’s video tutorial for small/tired eyes. This video is sure to give you long-lasting makeup that adds a little pop to your natural eye color.
How to Style Hair: Wear your hair down with big, loose curls or up in a loose messy bun to keep this look a little more laid-back.
What to Wear: To offset the bold lipstick, wear a casual outfit to the movies. Jeans or a maxi dress is the way to go.
Products Used: Primer, foundation, concealer eyeshadow, gel liner, fake eyelashes, eyebrow pencil, bronzer, blush, lip liner, lipstick
Night Out: The Classic Bombshell Smokey Eye
When has a well done smokey eye ever failed us? This tutorial by Jaclyn Hill is very easy to follow and will give your look a little extra edge for your night out. Pair it with some sort of a loose up-do to keep you from looking too harsh.
How to Style Hair: Wear your hair in a loose ponytail or messy bun and be sure not to pull your hair too tight off of your face.
What to Wear: Wear lighter colors on top to offset the dark eyeshadow and eyeliner.
Products Used: Primer, skin mist, foundation, concealer, powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, bronzer, blush, highlighter, eyelashes and makeup setting spray
Daytime Date: Antique Bronze Smokey Eye
Looking for a great night-out makeup look that doesn’t involve the classic smokey eye? Get ahead of the trend and use bronze or gold metallic eyeshadow to highlight the sun-kissed tan you got this summer. For inspiration, look to this tutorial!
How to Style Hair: Since this look is more subtle than the others, feel free to wear any hairstyle here. We recommend a loose braid or pulling half of your hair up.
What to Wear: We like to pair a white top or dress with this gold eyeshadow. It picks up the metallic features in the eyeshadow while highlighting the summer tan you’ve been working so hard on.
Products Used: Primer, mist, foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, eye pencil, fake eyelashes, mascara, bronzer, blush, highlighter, lipstick
Casual Date: Pinks & Neutrals
If you’re going to lunch, walking around the mall, or hanging out with him and his friends, this makeup trend is the perfect one to try. It’s enough to make you feel put-together, but not enough to look overdone.
How to Style Hair: Since this makeup look is fresh and clean, you have free range to do whatever you want with your hair.
What to Wear: Anything teal or gray-green is a perfect complement to a neutral makeup palette. Be bold, not blah.
Products Used: Primer, water, highlighter, foundation, concealer, bronzer, eyeshadow (we recommend Urban Decay’s Naked Basic Eyeshadow Palette #1 or #2), blush, lipstick, lip gloss
Its finally summer! School is over, final exams are done, and now is the start of the unofficial wedding season. Which leaves us asking the question, “What am I going to wear?” There are so many different summer wedding guest dresses out there, it may be difficult to determine which one fits your particular event.
When you’re looking for the perfect outfit, there is one main thing to remember: Don’t wear white.
Now that we’ve gotten what not to wear out of the way, lets focus on some great options of what you can wear!
White tie is the fanciest of all wedding attires. So fancy that you may not have even heard of it before. At a white tie wedding, floor length dresses in beautiful, great quality fabric are required. Summer wedding guest dresses that are light enough to wear on the hottest of days are hard to find, so we suggest a light silk or tulle dress. At white tie events, you will often see women in gloves, but in the summer it is not necessary.
Black tie is the second fanciest wedding type, just behind white tie. Unlike white tie, in black tie events, long gowns are not required. At a black tie event, women will be wearing both short and long dresses. If you do choose to wear short, make sure that it isn’t too short or revealing…black tie affairs are very classy events.
If you need a summer wedding guest dress for a formal event, you have a lot of options. Like black tie events, formal weddings don’t necessarily require long dresses, but if you do wear short, make sure you wear one with great fabric. If you’re going to wear long, steer towards something light and breezy so it doesn’t feel too stuffy.
Semi-formal may be the hardest to dress for. Here, you really don’t want a long dress unless its a little more laid-back, but not quite as casual as a maxi dress. Short dresses will be the main choice at these weddings. Since it is semi-formal, you can get away with wearing something a little more fun and not so serious.
Dressy Casual is not as widespread as some of these other summer wedding types, but still prominent enough to warrant its own category. If you’re looking for a summer wedding guest dress to wear to a dressy casual wedding, you can get away with a short dress, a long maxi dress or even a skirt and a top.
Just remember, these are all guidelines, not strict rules. If you want to be on the safe side, always dress up, not down. You’ll be much more comfortable overdressed than under dressed. Weddings are fun, after all, so go with whatever summer wedding guest dress you feel great in!
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a movie with a good high school dance scene? Whether you like watching romantic chick flicks or the funny, sometimes awkward and embarrassing prom scenes, you’ll certainly find prom movies here that will be on your must-see list.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Is there anything worse than not getting asked to prom? What if the only reason you were asked was because it was part of a crazy scheme that allowed for your sister to go? In 10 things I hate about you, Kat (Julia Stiles) finds out what it feels like to fall for a guy (Heath Ledger), who may not have the best intentions…
She’s All That (1999)
The unlikely Laney (Rachel Leigh Cook), is nominated for prom queen, after becoming the object of a bet between two high school guys. Can any girl beconme prom queen with the right makeover? Find out in this classic story of boy-falls-for-girl with a lot of unexpected twists along the way.
Can’t Buy Me Love (1987)
Want to see Patrick Dempsey try to be ‘cool’ and do awkward ‘trendy’ dance moves? This one is for you. In this prom movie, Ronald (Patrick Dempsey’s character) prepares for the dance by watching what he thought to be American Bandstand. It turns out he was actually watching a dance on the Africa Cultural Channel. He ends up doing that dance at prom which gets a very strong reaction from the student body.
Mean Girls (2004)
Although this dance is technically a “Spring Fling” instead of a prom, I think we can all agree it is one of the most memorable high school dances of all movies. Gretchen Weiners shows up looking “so fetch” in a great short blue tulle, and typical Regina George shows up looking perfect(ly plastic) in a short strapless pink dress even while wearing a full head brace. Last, but definitely not least, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) shows up to the Spring Fling just after finishing a mathletes contest and still in full mathletes garb. We’re going to assume you’ve seen this one, but if not, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Never Been Kissed (1999)
When Josie, a professional writer, is asigned to go undercover at a local high school, she gets a chance to remake the geek persona she had in school to that of a popular student. With the help of her brother, who decides to go undercover with her, she scores a date to prom with the most popular guy in school, Guy Perkins. Does she end up falling for Guy or does she stick to what she knows?
If it’s too good to be true chances are it’s not true.
Cheaper is not always better, sometimes it can turn into a nightmare. Many young girls every year are victims of counterfeit companies also known as knockoff websites. Who illegally take an Image from the designer or a designer’s retailer web page and sell poorly made prom dresses in sweat shops using child labor in china. It’s a frequent occurrence for these young girls to go to the actual retailers with tales of their experience after being cheated by a fraudulent online retailer. If you see a dress for $430 in 10 stores and on a website you see it marked down on sale for $150 chances are you’re not getting the authentic dress.
It has become more and more frequent for young girls to buy their prom dress from these counterfeit online websites. To prevent this from happening to you here are a few tips
The designer makes the dress in 4 colors and the less expensive website can make it in a dozen of colors
The counterfeit web site can make the dress exactly to the measurements you desire.
Web site has only an email as the main contact
Check to see if they have a reviews page
The dress is being shipped out from china not from the US (designers are based in the US)
Here is an example on the difference between a counterfeit website and an authorized dealer for a designer.
Knockoff website makes the dress in 24 colors while the designer only makes it in 4 different colors.
How to find authorized dealers:
Go to the sites of the top designers and use their “Where to Buy” function to find authorized retailers.
DO NOT BE A VICTIM
